TRANSCULTURAL FRIENDSHIP: OUR POLITICAL FUTURE Chapter Twelve: Evaluating the Global Transcultural Friendship Section 5: Potential and Well-Being
opfC51 |
We now turn to the "utopian aspect of our transcultural friendship. How "good" is it? How well does it promote human potential and feelings of well being?
opfC52 |
One way to evaluate is to examine some of the "seed" documents of this future -- for example, the Charter of the United Nations, and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Does it seem to the reader that the central organ of the future world is on the right track so far?
opfC53 |
As a minimum, the transcultural friendship will demand the fulfillment of potentials currently unrealized on a wide scale. Thus, our pragmatic utopia will certainly surpass present societies in the ability to actualize human potentials.
opfC54 |
Systems thinking and the expanded individual and systems competencies it supports will make people generally wore effective at achieving objectives -- whatever they may be. This will promote feelings of psychological success in addition to allowing needs to be met.
opfC55 |
The acquisition of transcultural consciousness will promote an identity broad enough to include all of humanity, and yet permit recognition of uniqueness and essentiality. The expanded identity will heighten our powers of love, and reduce the frequency and severity of conflict. The sense of essentiality will promote internal commitment to objectives and improve the quality of implementation of those objectives.

Given that:
opfC57 |
1. Individuals share the broad purpose of promoting everyone's potential and feelings of well-being;
opfC58 |
2. Individuals and societies have the conflict resolving competence to synergistically coordinate the more narrowly prioritized interests;
opfC59 |
3. Transcultural consciousness provides the wisdom to know the nature of humanity, and what will promote potential feelings of wel1-being;
opfC65A |
4. The morality of consequences is directed towards achieving the broadest purpose;
opfC5B |
5. Systems thinking makes achievement of objectives more likely;
opfC5C |
6. A political friendship is designed to maximize individual self-determination and realization of individual purposes;
opfC5D |
7. The transcultural friendship is generally capable of synthesizing individual determinations on how to effectuate the broader purposes; and
opfC5E |
8. Education throughout life is the primary interactional mode, so that development is constantly promoted;
opfC5F |
then it is likely that these well-intentioned and competent people and systems will accomplish the objectives of promoting human potential and well being. In fact, they would be much better than we are at creating the next pragmatic utopia -- perhaps a "stage thirteen astral projecting cosmic oneness." However, least our pragmatic utopia begin to sound pedestrian, we will stop at our stage five, systems thinking, educational, global transcultural friendship.
